200 School Buses… to Where?

I agree that Mayor Nagin doesn’t seem like the absolute sharpest tool in the drawer. But why do people keep asking him about the “200 drowned school buses“?

Let’s say Nagin had force-evacuated all his people onto the 200 school buses a full 24 hours ahead of time. Then what? Where would the school buses have driven to?

The Astrodome wasn’t a temporary shelter then, remember. Were the school buses supposed to be deployed to all the tiny shelters across Texas and other states? Or were they supposed to drop off each evacuee at his/her nearest, non-hurricane-threatened relative’s house, one by one?

I’m trying to imagine Houston’s mayor ordering to our citizens to board school buses headed into the unknown. Or even to coordinate the mass deployment of 200 school buses into other cities that haven’t yet been moved by tragic photos to open their doors to tens of thousands of strangers, for free.
