Loss of a Nostalgic Landmark

Astroworld is closing. For good. Man.

Every GenXer who grew up in Houston has fond memories of the theme park known as Astroworld. We used to go there on fieldtrips when our attendance was good. Kids fell in love at Astroworld. Kids conquered their fears. This is cheesy, but until I was an adult, Astroworld was literally my favorite place on Earth.

I’ve been talking about going (haven’t been since I was 18) ever since I came back home in 2000. My kids have gone two or three times, but not me.

My boyfriend’s friend Jorge texted us all last night. “ASTROWORLD IS CLOSING DOWN. LETS ALL GO ONCE LAST TIME!”

I’m ready to do it. I bet everyone else in Houston will be there, too.

Maybe this will turn out to be some publicity stunt to draw crowds and bring in money.

Wishful thinking…
