Yay. Yay! YAY!!?!!
I’m so happy and excited right now, little stars are swimming before my eyes and I had to put my head down for a second to rest.
You see, my friend Cate is also coming to visit me, today, just two weeks before I return her visit by flying to Toronto. I’m excited about seeing her, first of all, so that we can talk to our hearts’ contents without the hindrances of email or phone bills. Also, I’m totally effing psyched about showing her Houston, because she’s never been here before.
(Please, please don’t tell her that it’s 95 degrees here today. Don’t say anything about that until she’s already on the plane, all right? I told her we’d stay in the AC all weekend. What she doesn’t know won’t hurt her.)
I don’t think it’s any secret that I love living in Houston – particularly in its Inner Loop. And having someone fresh to show it off to just makes it that much more lovable. Where will I take her, you ask? To NASA? To the fourth largest port in America? To the historical battleground at San Jacinto?
No! We’re going out to eat, y’all. We’re gonna eat dim sum, pho, pad thai, sag paneer, enchiladas, and ribs. And we’ll wash it all down with bubble tea. Then, we’re gonna go shopping. Bargain shopping, to be exact, in the wholesale district, at the fleamarkets, and at the American world wonder known as Target.
Then… ahem… then we’ll go to the Museum of Natural Science. Purely for research purposes, of course.
You know why I love to visit Cate in Toronto? One, because I love Cate. Two, because Toronto is a lot like Houston, but with some of the cuisines switched out and not so much direct, ozone-less sunlight. And with fewer cars, and with Niagara Falls thrown in. And extra pigeons. But all the important things are still there – the eating, the shopping, the humidity, and the science.
So, as you can see, I have two absolutely death-defyingly fun weekends coming up. Here’s hoping I find Cate at the airport quick and safe…
