Don’t stop to talk. Call now.

Call 713-335-3443 to hear the second installment of my readings on PhoneWorks. (Houston call. Free for us, long distance for y’all.) Piece One is the title piece of the book I have coming out soon. Piece Two is from the chapbook I’ve had out for a little while. Piece Three is supposed to be in the book, but I think the publisher’s gonna want to cut it.

Piece Three is the funniest thing I’ve ever written, whether anyone agrees with me or not. I call and listen to myself reading Piece Three and laugh until I choke. Call for yourself and see if you agree. You can leave me a message afterwards and tell me so.

If you don’t want to call, that’s okay, too. Just don’t ask me to buy raffle tickets for your kids’ fundraiser, okay?

I went to JournalCon.

I’m going to write all about it later, when I have time to name check everybody and link their journals and all that. Maybe later tonight. If you’re only checking my page today to see if I say your name, check back later, okay?

the cutest thing my middle son has said all year

We were sitting around talking about food. My boyfriend and I shared the observation that when we say we like seafood, what we really mean is shellfish. One of the kids asked what shellfish was. We told him shrimp, lobsters, mussels, etc. Dallas, my nine-year old, briefly considers shellfish he has known. Then he says:

“I like seafood because, when you open it, it’s full of chicken.”

Is that the cutest freaking thing in the world or what? We say that all the time now. “Man, this shrimp is full of chicken.” “Dang, I love the chicken in these oysters. Pass me the horseradish.”

Dallas is kind of embarrassed when I tell that story, but everyone reacts the same way. “Aw! Poor baby! That’s so cute! Yeah, it is kind of like it’s full of chicken, isn’t it? Ha, ha…”

Dallas will either end up as a writer, a chef or a serial killer.

Just kidding. Knock on wood. He’s not gonna be a serial killer. He’s too good.
