Right on Cue Again
I’m talking about my infatuation for DJ Sasha, and then I read my blog rounds and find a very kind invitation from Sarah to do a song meme listing the 10 songs on my mind lately. Synchronicity! Here they are, in order from most-obsessed-over to least:
1. “Come to Me (Club Mix)” by Holden & Thompson, as remixed by Sasha. I love this song so much, it makes me cry. I’m not even fucking kidding.
2. “Strict Machine (We Are Glitter Mix)” by Goldfrapp, as remixed by Sasha, again, on the same album as song above.
3. “Panorama” by the Cars. I recently bought this album and the Police’s Zenyatta Mondatta in order to immerse myself in nostalgia. My fantasy is to form my own band and do a cover of this song.
4. “Bombs Away” by the Police.
5. “Breathe [The Passengers Tuff Club]” by Michelle Branch, as remixed by The Passengerz. Because even though I should’ve been burned out on this one by now, I heard the original the other day in its entirety for the first time, and I was struck by how much it sounded like a country song. Somehow, the Passengerz turned Michelle Branch’s plaintive country-esque wails into some of the sexiest trance vocals I’ve ever heard. (“They filter the shit out of it, baby,” explains Tad.)
6. “Chrome” by VNV Nation. This song is aggressively, violently good. I have to be careful not to listen to it in bad traffic, though, because then I might go crazy and kill people.
7. “Illinois Blues” by Skip James. Sad, spooky good.
8. “Samba De Bencao” by Bebel Gilberto. Awesomely mellow and retro.
9. Some song they’re currently playing on the Lane Bryant store soundtrack. Gotta find out the name of it.
10. “Through the Fire” by Chaka Khan. I need to purchase this song. It sometimes plays on my coworker’s radio and I really like the awesome ’70s-ness of it.
