Meme Taken from Becky

Is it just my faulty perception, or do people skim these, not so much reading the answers as composing their own? Well, enjoy my answers or, at least, the questions.

1. What time did you get up this morning?
5:30 am.

2. Diamonds or pearls?
Pearls. Preferably unusually colored/shaped ones.

3. What was the last film you saw at the cinema?
Sideways. (Cute but overrated.)

4. What is your favorite TV show?
America’s Next Top Model. It’s an obsession. Someone help me. Or, at least, tell me who you think should win and how much you hate Brandy.

5. What did you have for breakfast?
Blue Bunny low-carb yogurt in vanilla, and then an Atkins bar in Chocolate Peanut Butter.

6. What is your middle name?
Galadriel Lucia Margarita. Hush – don’t say anything.

7. What is your favorite cuisine?
Thai.

8. What foods do you dislike?
Macaroni and cheese. Especially when it’s referred to as “mac and cheese.”

9. What kind of car do you drive?
A silver ’02 Nissan Altima.

10. Favorite sandwich?
Antone’s Super Original. It’s a poor boy with ham, turkey, hard salami, and – most importantly – hot chow chow sauce.

11. What characteristic do you despise?
Dishonesty. God, I hate dishonesty so much. If you were to walk up and tell me, “Gwen, I kind of hate you. You talk too much, you smell bad, and sometimes I fantasize about killing you with a spiked club,” you’d STILL have a better chance at being my friend than if you lied to me and expected me to believe it.

12. Favorite item of clothing?
Right this second, it’s a drapey black blouse with white polka dots. Feminine, but not too. Low-cut, but not skanky.

13. If you could go anywhere in the world for a holiday, where would you go?
Tokyo.

14. What color is your bathroom?
Apartment-building white.

15. Favorite brand of clothing?
Okay… there’s what I like, and then there’s what I can wear. If we can include stores as brands, then I like Arden B, Ann Taylor, the Limited, Versace, and Kenneth Cole. If you were to glance through my closet, you’d have to assume that my favorite brands are Lane Bryant, New York & Co., Mossimo, and Merona.

16. Where would you like to retire?
Someplace warm and mellow where I could garden extensively but also still shop.

17. Favorite time of the day?
4:00 pm.

18. What was your most memorable birthday?
Twelve years old, mini-golfing at Malibu Games, hitting the frozen fountains with the golf clubs, making everyone chip in skeetball tickets to win me the tiny stuffed unicorn.

19. Where were you born?
Downtown Houston.

20. Favorite sport to watch?
Gymnastics? The one wear they do cartwheels diagonally across the floor.

21. What are you wearing right now?
These semi-sad black pants with knitted-in white pinstripes. They sadden me because of the elastic waist and the fact that they’re about an inch and a half too short for me. But they’re also my fat pants, and right now I’m fat. Also, I’m wearing this lavender surplice top with a side bow at the hip, that upon its purchase struck me as very girl-in-the-Art-Deco-Coke-ads, but which now, in my office’s restroom mirrors, instead looks rather stretchily Logan’s Run. With that, I am not wearing the high-heeled dressier loafers, because my feet are puffing up and making them hurt. So I have the flat, expensive-looking-but-not-flattering-with-the-too-short-pants loafers on, instead. And silver hoop earrings, and a silver ring. And pink lip gloss with a bit of glitter, because I just don’t care.

22. What star sign are you?
Capricorn. Practical and ambitious. Half-goat, half-fish. I like it.

23. What fabric detergent do you use?
Arm & Hammer’s non-allergenic stuff. But, you know what? I might just switch to Gain.

24. Pepsi or Coke?
Diet Cherry Coke.

25. Are you a morning person or a night owl?
Morning, for about an hour. Then I get hungry and turn into a massive bitch.

26. What is your shoe size?
10.

27. Do you have any pets?
We have Smeagol, an orange and white cat, when he deigns to come home and eat the cat food we’ve served him. Also, I have about 25 carpenter ants in my bathroom at any given time. I feel some affection for them which may be mutual.

28. Any new exciting news you’d like to share with your family and friends?
Yes, but I can’t share it right now because I’m superstitious about jinxing things.

29. What did you want to be when you were little?
A rock star.

30. What will you be doing today?
Checking policies. Picking up my kids from schools. Walking three miles with them at the park, if it doesn’t rain. Helping Dallas finish his book report on a biography of Sam Houston. Helping Rory research vultures. Searching my car for a Netflix DVD that needs to be returned. Heating up a packaged stir-fry for dinner. Talking on the phone to my boyfriend. Emptying the dishwasher. Putting away laundry. Reading. Sleeping, perchance to dream.

31. What is your favorite quality about yourself?
My sense of humor.

32. What is your favorite ice cream flavor?
Moose Tracks or, as Blue Bunny brand calls it, Bunny Tracks.

33. What is your favorite CD at the moment?
A mix CD I made that includes the original “Give a Little Bit” by Supertramp and assorted nineties songs along with my fave songs from the mix CD I got from Omar.

34. Best compliment you ever got:
Once, when I was a teenager in a teen performing arts troupe, we went to a local mall to perform a few selections from our summer smash, Leader of the Pack. I was a better singer than dancer, so I mostly sang. When it was over, we dutifully trekked to the public restrooms to change out of our jazz pants and jazz shoes. En route was a small pile of elementary-school girls, looking and whispering. In my peripheral vision, I saw one of them point at me as I passed. I heard her confide, “I want to be that one.”

It brought a tear to my eye and to my vain adolescent insecurity. Since then, I’ll think of that little girl once in a while and quickly pray that she ended up being whatever she imagined me to be, plus more.

35. Are you superstitious?
Somewhat, in the Mexican way.

36. Favorite thing to cook/make?
I used to like to bake cakes and pies for the holidays. Now I cook as little as I can get away with.

37. Favorite quote:
“If you’re so smart, why ain’t you rich?”

38. Favorite movie:
It used to be Hedwig and the Angry Inch, and before that it was Chung King Express, and before that it was Clueless, but now I really don’t have one. I’ve been renting a lot of TV series DVDs. I like Freaks and Geeks and Azumanga Daioh.

39. Favorite book:
What did I say last time? The Catcher in the Rye? That’s not it. How about… something by PKD. I can’t decide which.

40. Hardest lesson ever learned:
Just because a man has a job and doesn’t drink, that’s not necessarily enough reason to marry him when you’re twenty years old.

41. Something you would recommend to everyone to do at least once:
Ride a teacup ride. Spin it real fast.
