Oops, Gwen talks about Britney again.
So my new favorite song of the week is “Toxic” by Miss Britney Spears, and I was looking around the Internet trying to find out who wrote it and all that. It was done by Cathy Dennis, who also wrote “Can’t Get You Outta My Head” and other catchy, popular tunes. This woman kicks ass.
So then I’m thinking that I’ll check the reviews of In the Zone to try to find out if the rest of the album is similar to “Toxic” or if that song was just a fluke. And all I can find is bile. Or undereducated teenagers railing against the bile. I was annoyed. I don’t really care what critics think of Britney Spears’ character or her self-marketing scheme. I want to know about the music. And if I were to judge music by its lyrics, I’d have to throw out half my CD collection.
The straightest answer I got out of anyone was that In the Zone is a slick, overcooked cross section of the best producers money can buy pouring beats under the commercial machine that is Britney.
I’m getting my copy this weekend.
