low blood sugar

Yesterday I decided to go to the grocery store after work. I shopped and shopped, even though I was already hungry and tired, because my kids are with their dad this week and I knew I had to take advantage of that fact by winding my way through the aisles as slowly as possible, so as not to forget anything necessary to our lives.

I drove home with my eyes bleary and my thoughts all discouraged and disarrayed. What was the use of buying LO CARB (in futuristic font) food when I’ve already almost gained back a whole size since Thanksgiving? What was the use of caring if all I do is sit in a corner and do insurance work for other people all day, anyway? When was I ever gonna make enough money? What’s the use of trying?

While I thought all that, the other half of my brain steadily, soothingly murmured, “You’re just hungry. You’re just tired. Get home safe and eat some cereal.” It was right.

stupid cafeteria dream again

This morning I dreamed that freaking Fran Tarkenton gave everybody a cafeteria plate but me. I had really been looking forward to mine, because it had mashed sweet potatoes on it. But that fucker flirted with me in his subtly pinstriped suit while serving everyone else, then just walked away.

Pissed, I asked my kids and my friends to go ahead and eat while I found myself a plate. All the clean plates already had huge, beautiful slabs of white coconut cake on them. By the time I found a clean, empty, cheap paper plate, the alarm went off. Dammit.

I felt deprived.
