Frightening Assholes
So I’m looking through Go Fug Yourself, a fellow Damn Hell Ass Kings site by Heather and Jessica, because I’ve always enjoyed those “What in the heck are those celebrities wearing now?” magazine features.
Lately, however, I haven’t been enjoying Go Fug Yourself as much as I used to. At first, it was a collection of amusing fashion choices in JPG form with the normal assortment of comments by the hip Generation X people who profess their love/hate relationships with all things pop. Then, it slowly morphed into random JPGs followed by pages of violent, sexist rantings, as exemplified by this e-stoning of a fifteen-year-old girl.
I’m not criticizing Jessica and Heather – I’m sure they never intended their site as fodder for psychos who fantasize aloud about “bitch-slapping” women who don’t meet their masturbation standards. The funniest (well, saddest, I mean) part of the comments is the support that the sexist crazies get from the upstanding soccer moms. “I wouldn’t let MY daughter leave the house like that!” they scream. So it’s okay, in their eyes, when men spew hate on OTHER people’s daughters. No… no, the funniest part was that when one lone person called these assholes out on their messed-up attitudes, someone else sighed, “Here come the trolls!” Like, “Oh, it’s so boring when someone tries to ruin our teen-girl-bashing fun!”
It reminds me of a forum discussion I read on Television Without Pity a long time ago in which posters were calling Christina Aguilera a slut for allegedly having performed oral sex on Eminem. Eminem’s not a slut for telling stories about his penis – only the girl can be a slut! Justin’s not wrong for exposing Janet’s breast – Janet’s wrong for having a breast! Rapists aren’t wrong for raping women – not if the women are dressed like that!
I hate it when I go to a Web site for a few minutes of amusement, and end up being reminded that most people in America hate women.
I hate it when I point this out, and people sigh, “Oh, lord. Not that old, boring feminism again.”
Maybe I should stop talking about it. Maybe I should just start bitch-slapping people I disagree with, instead. That seems to be the style, doesn’t it?
