Awesome Weekend
Saturday night’s grown-up party was fabulous. Then, Sunday night’s family party was super fun, too. The trick-or-treating wasn’t great, but screw it. There was candy to be had elsewhere.
I’ve been indifferent to Halloween for the past 5 or 6 years, but now that I’ve finally celebrated it, myself, instead of just playing mommy, I love it again. I’ll post pictures later.
Plus, it was really good to hang out with my family. More of them showed up than we expected. Once a bunch of us get together, that’s it. There’s no going back. It’s just hours of heckling and laughing, getting louder at an exponential rate, until one or four of the kids cries out, “Mom! Can we PLEASE go home?!” All the moms stop telling bawdy jokes about each other to turn around and see who cried. Then, reminded of our solemn duties, we all pack up our kids and their candies and caravan back to our homes.
One of my cousins pulled the old, “So… Gwen… You think you might be ready to have another kid? Try for a girl?” My boyfriend Tad gets along well with my relatives because he’s just as mean as them. He turned around and tells my cousin, “Don’t ask her that shit and then look at me.” We all laughed and recalled all the times this particular cousin has so blatantly tried to matchmake us all. “Fuck y’all,” she answered good-naturedly.
It takes a lot of love to have a family like that.
