wish list

Two of my friends always make wish lists for me, and I make wish lists for them, because we don’t see each other often enough during the year to make educated guesses about what the others want for Christmas. (Only true friends can do such tacky things for each other.)

I’ve realized over the years that I can’t put stuff that I really want or need on my list, because I’m so freaking picky. I can’t say “work clothes” or “hat” or “lip gloss” or “games for the Pocket PC I got for free” because that would be trapping my friends into getting me a gift I’d never use.

So here’s the list I gave them:

  • sugar-free chocolates
  • knee socks (especially white)
  • trouser socks (especially black)
  • short socks to go with tennis shoes
  • black tights [deleting the part where I tell them to get them in a certain really huge size]
  • plants
  • bar supplies
  • liquor
  • pretty coasters
  • anything on my Amazon wish list

The more I thought about it, the more I realized that I really would like a lot of socks. I type “socks” on my list every year, but almost never get them. The thing about socks is that the nice ones are usually $4 a pair. I’m too cheap to buy myself socks for that much. But that’s a really cheap gift for someone else to buy me. Maybe, because of the way I’ve broken down my sock desires and strategically positioned them on this list, I will have a very socky Christmas, after all.
