I miss my kids

I got to spend a weekend with my kids (one out of the eight weeks they’re with their dad for the summer) and now I miss them more than ever. But we had a good time. We went to the movies and to the Austin Botanical Gardens. We had bubble tea and pizza and nasty Chinese buffet food. We swam and talked and shopped and rebonded. I get them back in three weeks, and then our lives go back to normal.

We saw Pirates of the Caribbean.

It was good. Johnny Depp ruled. He reminded me of Adam Ant’s salad days with his silver eyeshadow, black eyeliner, and beaded/bowed hair. His gala-foppish pirate portrayal was hilariously bad-ass. I love him now. I want to bring him a drink of his choice on a silver tray. Legolas and the Heroine were good, too, but Johnny made the movie.

oh my god

I experienced the best thrift-store find in the world in Austin on Friday. Across the street from the famed, overrated, expensive South Congress vintage clothing store known as Lucy in Disguise with Diamonds, I walked into my fave St. Vincent’s and freaking scored a matte gold silk ’60s number with amber beads and tawny pearls all over the mandarin collar and short raglan sleeves. For twelve dollars. And it fits me absolutely perfectly. St. Vincent’s on South Congress in Austin rules my world!
